National Division Officers Elected at First Convention

 

Las Vegas, NV -The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters elected National Division Officers to four-year terms at the First Regular National Division Convention.

 

Freddie Simpson was reelected National Division President and Perry Geller was reelected National Division Secretary-Treasurer.The Convention reelected four National Division Vice Presidents and filled one Vice President vacancy. Delegates also reelected four National Division Executive Board members and filled one vacancy on the Board. †††

 

Approximately 450 elected rank-and-file delegates from throughout the United States were seated at Convention to represent their Local Lodge membership on all matters decided by Convention.

 

The purpose of the BMWED Quadrennial Convention is to review the work and accomplishments of the Brotherhood, to consider legislation for the benefit and advancement of the membership, to amend the National Division Bylaws, to elect National Division officers and to act upon such other business as may properly come before the Convention.

 

BMWED represents approximately 33,000 railroad workers who build, construct, inspect, and maintain the tracks, bridges, buildings and related infrastructure on all the major railroads in the United States.††† Originally founded in 1887 as the Order of Railroad Trackmen, the Brotherhood is one of the oldest continuous labor unions in the country.†† In 1902 the name of the Order was changed to the International Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes.†† The Brotherhood became a division of the Teamsterís Rail Conference upon merging with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in January 2005.
